Title

Finite element analysis of evaporative cooling using clay pipe

Abstract

Evaporative cooling is environment friendly method of refrigeration as compare to use of chemical refrigerant. In evaporative refrigeration evaporation method is utilized to remove heat from the air. Furthermore use of mud pipe further enhances the cooling effect. Thus the objective of this work is to analyse the potential of clay pipe in evaporator cooler using ANSYS software. The mud pipe was designed in conical shape (reduction in cross section area of pipe along the length) to provide smooth laminar flow to air as well as reduction in temperature. The analysis was performed with various level of air velocity (5, 10, 15 m/s). The air temperature, velocity change were analysed to measure the performance evaporative cooling. The analysis indicated that cooling effectiveness improve with decrease of air velocity at staggered position.
