In India, family Convolvulaceae is represented by 20 genera and 158 species occurring chiefly in the southern and western India. Over 60 species of Ipomoea are reported in India distributed and occurs especially in damp places. These species are used in different parts of the world for the treatment of several diseases, such as, diabetes, hypertension, dysentery, constipation, fatigue, arthritis, kidney ailments and inflammations. The most common biologically active constituents from plants of genus Ipomoea are ergoline alkaloids, indolizidine alkaloids, nortropane alkaloids, phenolics compounds, coumarins, norisoprenoids, diterpene, isocoumarin and benzenoids, flavonoids and antocianosides, glycolipids, lignan and triterpenes. Ipomoea nil is a climber species that has been widely cultivated as a garden ornamental across tropical, subtropical and warm temperate regions of the world. It is identified as a useful material for several applications including medicinal purposes .It has many potential uses due to its phytochemicals. The present study deals with its Phytochemicals study such as flavonoids , Phenols etc. and its significanct role.
