Studying history give a chance to observe and provide a crucial perspective for understanding.History of anesthesia dates back to 1st AD when Dioscorides used the terms anesthesia to describe the narcotic effect of plant Mandragora. The word anesthesia is a Greek origin word which means without sensation (anwithout/ aesthesis-sensation). The meaning of anesthesia is loss of sensation with or without loss of consciousness. History evident that the Arab physician have been done tremendous work in the field of anesthesia. They coined the concept of local and general anesthesia, substantially in the field of general anesthesia. They also give the concept of inhalation anesthesia with the use of an aesthetic soporific sponge. The contribution of Arab physicians in this field is remarkable. Apart from the Arabs the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans also aid evolution in this field.
