Title

“A Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Educational Intervention on Breast Feeding Knowledge and Practices Among Primi Mothers of Low Birth Weight (LBW) babies admitted in Neonatal Unit of Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital, Dharwad”.

Abstract

Background of the study: Breast Feeding is considered as the child’s right. Due to lack of knowledge on initiation of breast feeding and proper technique most of the LBW babies are susceptible to complications, it has also been noted that many mothers suffer backache due to improper posture while breast feeding the baby. Therefore, one to one education on knowledge enhancement among Primi Mothers in relation to breast feeding techniques and correct posture will benefit both mother and child. Aims: Assess the pre-interventional level of Knowledge and Practices of Primi Mothers regarding Breast Feeding, evaluate the effectiveness of Educational Intervention. Conceptual Frame work Nola J. Pender’s Health Promotion Model. Methodology Quantitative Evaluative research approach was used in the Pre-Experimental research design, independent variable was Educational Intervention and dependent variable was Knowledge and Practice on Breast feeding. Non-Probability Purposive sampling technique was used to select (40) Primi Mothers. Data was collected by using structured questionnaire on Knowledge and Observational Checklist was used to assess the Primi’s Mother’s breastfeeding method, Educational Intervention (One to One Teaching) was administered. Results After administrating the Educational Intervention (One to One Teaching) the calculated ‘t’ value was (43.69 and 36.18) Knowledge and Practice.
