Title

Implementing SoC Based BMS to Achieve Enhanced Battery Life for PV Fed Islanded DC Microgrid

Abstract

DC Microgrid is the recent technology with different configurations. Among all, battery bank is the source plays a vital role in conserving DC bus power. For continuous operation of battery, State of Health (SoH) problems arise in the area of ​​deep discharge or overcharge region. To avoid these, an effective control strategy is implemented which monitor the battery performance. In this function, the DC bus is supplied with the Solar PV buck converter controlled at 48V. Bidirectional DC-DC Buck-Boost converter is also used to transfer power inside or outside the battery bank. The proposed BMS is enhanced with two features, to prevent overcharging of the battery and to prevent the battery from sinking into deep leaks. This implementation is followed by two control loops internal current control and external power control loop. The process concludes that the performance of the proposed BMS strategy during the discussed operations is very good and the life time of battery is greatly enhanced by long-term use.
