Data warehouses are designed to store and manage large volumes of historical data, enabling organizations to perform complex analyses and make informed decisions. One of the key challenges in data warehouse design is the management of slowly changing dimensions (SCDs), which refer to attributes or dimensions that change over time, but not at a rapid pace. This research paper presents a comprehensive approach to handling slowly changing dimensions in data warehouses. The proposed framework addresses the various types of SCD scenarios, including Type 1 (overwrite), Type 2 (create new record), and Type 3 (maintain history) changes, and provides guidelines for their effective implementation. The paper explores the design considerations, data modeling techniques, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes required to effectively manage SCDs. It also discusses the implications of SCD handling on data warehouse performance, query optimization, and reporting capabilities. Through case studies and practical examples, the research demonstrates the application of the proposed SCD handling framework in real-world data warehouse environments. The findings highlight the benefits of adopting a structured approach to SCD management, including improved data integrity, enhanced analytical capabilities, and better support for business intelligence initiatives.
