Title

Sinusoidal Peak to Peak Voltage Detector

Abstract

Analog Voltmeters were invented in the early 1920s as radio receivers and other vaccum tube electronic devices became more common. The first digital voltmeter was invented and produced by Andrew Kay of Non linear systems .in 1954 . A sinusoidal voltmeter gives the root mean square value of input signal in terms of average value . There are situations of for measurements of peak value of the input voltage . Specially in high voltage applications breakdown of insulation is dependent on the peak value of the applied voltage and not on the effective value . so measurement of the peak value in high voltage system is of immense importance . Various techniques are in use for the measurement of high voltage ranging from simple potential divider to sophisticated sensors like optical transducers . However , all these methods have specific areas of application as well as own advantages and limitations . This paper persents the peak to peak value measurement technique of sinusoidal voltage using peak to peak detector circuit . The peak to peak detector ciconsists of all pass filter, squaring circuits and square rooter circuit. The circuit was simulated using simulation tool Microsim EDA Version 8.0 . Also
