Title

A STUDY ON EPS PANELS AS AN ALTERNATE BUILDING MATERIAL IN EARTHQUAKE ZONE.

Abstract

It is impossible to construct a human home at a reasonable cost and in a timely or expedient manner. In India, both urban and rural housing are in limited supply. It is impossible or difficult to construct a cost-effective dwelling due to a group of people with low income. The materials necessary for building construction are in great demand, since they represent the backbone of the construction industry. Also a key issue is the expense of construction, the time necessary to finish the project owing to iffy weather conditions, varied craftsmanship, and unforeseen increases in material costs. India need new creative, energy-efficient building materials for robust and long-lasting houses in a fast-track construction process at a cheap cost to meet all of these fundamental necessities. As a result, reinforced expanded polystyrene wall panels, which are a superior alternative to traditional building materials, are one such material. This lightweight reinforced expanded polystyrene wall panel can provide a solution to any of the above challenges and concerns while also contributing to environmental conservation. The examination focused on the lightweight sandwich wall panel's strength, fabrication process, and qualities. This EPS panel also solves the problem of connecting diagonal shear reinforcement and covering the EPS. The mild steel bars should be placed above the EPS and below the welded galvanised steel mesh to avoid this problem. The study also looks at the strength of reinforced EPS wall panels under flexural loading (one point load) by treating them like a floor, as well as the strength under axial load by treating them like a wall. It has been discovered that the cost of materials for constructing a structure utilising reinforced EPS technology is cheaper than that of constructing a brick wall. This Reinforced Expanded Polystyrene Technology enables housing demand to be met at a reduced cost. As a result, we want to demonstrate that by employing Reinforced Expanded Polystyrene Technology as an alternative building material, we may accomplish a simple, quick, and cost-effective construction approach.

Key Words

Expanded Polystyrene Panels, Alternative Materials, Compressive Strength, Flexural Strength, and Seismic Load.
