The Islamic literature points out that there is no discrimination against women in Islam. Bothe men and women are being created equal in the spiritual sense. Women's intelligence, education and knowledge are not inferior to those of men. They have freedom of choice as men do regarding their career, marriage and even their rights. with the advancement in society, the discrimination against women has been reduced to a great extent, but the violation of their rights is still observed there. women are still seen as being the victims of hindered access to quality education, their rights, decision making process and occupation. Still, they are restricted to a vicious circle of gender discrimination and stigma. the aim of this paper is to explore the rights and status of women as stipulated by Islam and find out several forms of violence that are perpetrated against women in Kashmiri society.
