Hospitals have become crowded place due to growth of population, specifically in urban areas. A large number of people, from all walks of life visit hospital daily. Hospital becomes susceptible to various kind of security threat since it falls in category of ‘soft target’. Terrorists also find hospital to be lucrative target for strike as it provides them top slot in media headlines and creates enormous pressure on government. However, well trained hospital security persons, who are the ‘first responders’ during any eventuality can tackle the issue diligently till arrival of police. Placement of physical security measures in hospital deny easy access and they act as deterrence and barrier for criminals. Proper Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) should be formulated and adequate rehearsals ought to be carried to thwart nefarious design of persons with malafide intentions. Cyber-attack threat has added new dimension in hospital security. But, adherence to government guidelines and advisories can nullify the evil aspirations of criminals.
