Title

FACTORS INFLUENCING WORK LIFE BALANCE OF MARRIED FEMALE NURSES

Abstract

Abstract : Work life balance is the effective management of multiple roles both at work and family. Though, working women significantly contributes to labour market, their dual responsibility becomes a challenge. Women in healthcare sector particularly nurses need to work comparatively long working hours than other profession. The present study focuses on factors influencing work life balance of married female nurses working in private hospitals in Kanniyakumari District, Tamil Nadu. This present study is descriptive and analytical in nature. The data have been collected from both primary and secondary sources. Data analyses have been done using SPSS and statistical tools such as Descriptive Statistics, Friedman Ranking and factor analysis were used. Five influential factors have been found out such as Working hours factor, Work factors, Individual factors, Life factors and Stress factors. Married working women working for longer hours outside home creates imbalance in work and family life. The field of health care requires dedication and focus on the work as it deals with human life. It is concluded in the study that married female nurses chose the occupation to meet financial needs. They had to work for longer hours and faces high level of stress. A kind of motivation and relaxation techniques can be regularly provided by the hospitals to help nurses to relieve stress. Hospitals can consider short vacation to nurses to spend time with their loved ones.
