The importance of leadership in today’s society cannot be underestimated. However, the usage of theories and models that have existed for decades without change has not only created real-world challenges but also fails to ignore the ever expanding concept of leadership in a disruptive world. Whilst the Full Range Leadership Model and its measurement through the MLQ remains valid, its usage has been in doubt in recent years especially in light of practical issues that have arisen as a result of its overuse. To overcome these limitations, a new approach proposed by Barry A. Vann, Aaron N. Coleman and Jennifer A. Simpson is given attention so that future studies regarding leadership can focus on the concept of hybrid leadership. This paper also adds to the conversation regarding the potential of hybrid leadership, which remains under-researched in leadership research today. A simplified conceptual model is proposed to provide impetus to researchers to begin conducting more studies regarding the concept of hybrid leadership and how it may fill a gap that exists within literature.
