Started from the writings of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay Indian Literature had a great history. Indian Literature has so many dimensions. It started growing to identify the problems of Indian society weather it is cultural, political, economical and social. So the journey of Dalit Literature in English is to figure out the problems of minorities and poor people. Which were arose by the upper strata. From the very earlier period India had history of caste ridden system. In the ancient time the society was majorly distributed in four classes named Brahmin, Kshtriya, Vaishya and Shudras. Dalit literature the word itself defines the literature written by Dalits and for Dalits to glorify their concerns in the set caste ridden society. Dalit Literature emerged as a distinct genre and an essential group of literary sources that Dalits created to share their conditions and sufferings with the world. To put some light on the Dalit Literature in my explanation, this paper delves deep into the ocean of Dalit Literature to explore the etymology, major concerns and themes of Dalit Literarure. The major agenda of this literature is to provide voice to the all exploited and minority communities. The paper also focuses on the reasons which were behind the emergence and rise of Dalit literature.
