Title

Level of Service (LOS) for Urban Road – A Case Study at Etah Road

Abstract

The road network of any city or village is a lifeline, and evaluation of its effectiveness for future transportation planning, design, operation and maintenance. With the rapid increase in the of population in urban and rural areas, the purchase of Vehicle has also increased, and the need for a suitable transport network that can provide good compatibility for road users has become a big Issue in India. In Etah, roads are congested at a high level due to increase in traffic volume and operate in LOS D or E. The purpose of this study is to improve the performance of Etah Road by suggesting appropriate alternatives for increasing capacity. To achieve this goal, a full mixed traffic analysis method was selected and analyzed for the 2 km section from Tundla Tahsil to Pachokhara along the Etah road. There are several popular methods for determining the service level of a particular road segment, such as fuzzy set theory, genetic algorithm, cluster analysis, and neural network discussed and described in this case study. A new approach has been introduced to define service levels. i.e., volume-tocapacity ratio (v/c), average vehicle speed, and speed reduction ratio.

Key Words

Traffic studies, level of service (LOS), passenger speed reduction (PSR), traffic volume, volume to capacity ratio(v/c), volume count, Congestion.
