Title

TO STUDY THE MEAN AND RANGE OF PARENTS F1S AND F2S IN 10 PARENTS DIALLEL CROSS IN INDIAN MUSTARD

Abstract

This study was carried out during Rabi seasons in the two successive years, 1996-97, and 1997-98 and data were recorded in the research farm of BNPG College Rath, Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh (India). The variation within the parents, F1s and F2s were significant for all the characters. However, its magnitude varied from character to character. The variability among the parents was high for number of siliquae per main branch followed by plant height, days to flowering, days to maturity, seed yield per plant, oil content, 1000-seed weight, number of secondary branches per plant, number of primary branches per plant, number of seeds per siliqua and siliqua length. The mean of F1 hybrids were more than their parental mean for siliquae per plant, days to maturity, 1000-seed weight, oil content and seed yield per plant, whereas other characters showed the same values. The mean performance of F2 progenies was less than F1s for all the characters except days to flowering, number of branches per plant, number of siliquae per main branch, siliqua length and it was equal to number of secondary branches per plant, whereas, it was higher than the parents for days to maturity, oil content and siliqua length.
