Title

Identification of constraints in construction industry.

Abstract

A constraint is determined as anything that restricts an association or element from moving toward or accomplishing its objective. In the construction industry, different constraints bring different complications. Identification of constraints in construction projects is the main aim of this study. In the current pandemic situation, it is important to identify constraints to know the which constraints are more effects the construction industry in post COVID era. If the constraints are better identified before starting a construction, it is accepted that the better execution can be guaranteed. Recognizing and ejecting constraints from different construction activities helps to reduce instabilities in construction procedure. The objectives of this study are to identify and reduce the constraints in the construction industry. This study is carried out with the help of literature reviews and questionnaire survey. Total 58 constraints are found and prepared a questionnaire form which is forwarded to different construction industry experts such as project managers, engineers etc. and data analysis was made using the relative important index (RII) method and top most constraints are identified and suggest remedial measures for the construction industry. The top most factors are increment in material cost, increase labour and equipment cost, loses due to rise in fuel price, late reply of any problem by engineer or project management, difficult structure design of building, low productivity of workers, modification in drawing and design during execution, difficult architectural design of building, late drawings, details and instruction and theft of materials, equipment etc.

Key Words
