Title

DYSMENORRHEA RELIEVER AND POSTURE SUPPORT BELT WITH A COMBINATION OF HEAT AND VIBRATION THERAPY

Abstract

Menstrual cramps (Dysmenorrhea) are pains in the lower abdomen just before and during a woman’s menstrual cycle. During one’s menstrual period, the uterus contracts to help expel its lining. Hormonelike substances, prostaglandins trigger these uterine muscle contractions. Higher levels of prostaglandins are associated with more-severe menstrual cramps. Menstrual cramps don't cause medical complications, but they can interfere with school, work and social activities. However, certain conditions associated with menstrual cramps can have complications. For example, endometriosis can cause fertility problems and pelvic inflammatory disease increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy. Some existing therapies include the consumption of painkillers that help lower the body’s production of prostaglandin. Applying heat to your abdomen and lower back is also said to relieve pain. Heating pads or hot-water bottles are frequently utilised. Massage treatment is also beneficial. It involves pressing specific points while the therapist’s hands move around your abdomen, side, and back. Acupuncture and acupressure are two more popular therapy options. A simple orthopedic heat belt, USB Electric Heating Waist Pad, NUA heating pad, Cura-heat period cramp belt, and other products are routinely used to relieve menstrual cramps. The goal of this project is to provide pain treatment to individuals suffering from the pain caused due to their menstrual cycle in three ways: heat therapy, vibration therapy, and posture support with the help of a 3-in-1 belt that can be worn on the abdomen and lower back. The heating patch is made using peltiers and coin-type vibration motors are used to implement vibration therapy. The heat patch and the vibration patch are to be connected to batteries for power supply. The posture support belt is designed and composed of materials like Spandex, Eva, Nylon and Polyester PU. The software Raspberry Pi 3b+ model is used for operating the belt. The heat patch, vibration motors, batteries and Raspberry Pi 3b+ model are all embedded within one single belt along with the additional posture support belt. The expected result of this project is to provide pain relief and comfort to women during their menstrual cycle by placing the belt on the abdomen and lower back. The belt can be used for daily purpose during long working hours. It is portable and rechargeable. Posture maintenance can also improve blood circulation. It can be used not only by women that face pain during their menstrual cycles but also by all individuals who have back and abdominal pain.
