Title

SYNTHESIS AND STUDY OF ELECTRICAL BEHAVIOR OF POLYANILINE–SILVER NANOCOMPOSITES PREPARED BY CHEMICAL OXIDATIVE METHOD.

Abstract

The properties of Polyaniline (PANI) are highly dependent on the conditions under which it is synthesized. Using the chemical oxidative polymerization technique, PANI emeraldine salt composites were synthesized in this study. The major dopants comprised 1M each of H2SO4, CH3COOH, HCOOH, HCL, and HNO3, while the secondary dopant was AgNO3 (0.1M, 0.3M, and 0.5M concentrations) with aniline (C6H5NH5) as the monomer and ammonium persulfate ((NH4)2S2O8) as the oxidant. The PANI/ AgNO3-Acid Nanocomposites were characterized using UV-Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy. The electrical conductivity of the various composites was measured using the Four Probe device. The UV-Vis spectra gave optical bandgap values (for all PANI composites) ranging from 2.4 eV to 3.0 eV. for PANI/0.3M AgNO3-HNO3 and PANI/0.1M AgNO3-H2SO4 composite respectively. For the FT-IR results, Benzoid and Quinoid bands at 1400-1500 cm-1 and 1585 - 1600 〖cm〗^(-1) respectively were observed in all the samples, indicating the synthesis of PANI composites. The conductivity values range from 0.001177 Scm-1 being the lowest to 13.540228 Scm-1 being the highest for PANI/0.3M AgNO3 HCOOH and PANI/0.3M AgNO3 HCl respectively. These measured conductivities for the PANI composites were found to be in the semiconductor region.
