Banking sector is the essential sector of a country. Without its efficient functioning a country can fall down economically. This sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in India. Today's banking sector is becoming more complex. With the advent of the modernisation and automation, the ease of obtaining loans and advances has increased. There are many new products available in the market to advance loans. The business gets accelerated with the bank loans and economy improves on one hand. On the other hand, while the loans are not repaid, it questions the income and performance of the bank by itself. While the bank’s loan helps the development of industry, but when the loans and advances become a non performing asset, it creates a worst impact on the bank’s credibility and performance. The problem of NPAs in India is on the rise, affecting the banking sector and the economy of India as a whole as it affects credit availability and India sees many of its banks crumbling under pressure. Recognizing this problem, the government has taken steps to ensure that banks continue to operate and provide credit to the economy.
