Title

A STUDY OF RELATION BETWEEN FAMILY DISTRESS AND RELIGIOUS INVOLVEMENT OF INDIANS DURING COVID 19 CRISIS PERIOD

Abstract

COVID-19, which is caused by SARS-COV-2 has originated from Wuhan city China, in the last week of December-19, hence named as COVID-19. The virus transmitted to different countries and every corner of the world through international travel. Virus then spread intercity. WHO declared the problem as a public health emergency of international concern on 30 January 2020 and as a pandemic on 11 march 2020. The COVID-19 virus is airborne and spreads via contaminated air with small liquid particles for the mouth and nose of an infected person during coughs, sneezes, speaking, singing or breath. Several attempts are made to contain the virus. According to researchers, people who are in distress use religious activities to cope with the distress. There was a lot of distress to people during COVID 19 pandemic period. There were disturbances in the families due to financial stress, domestic violence, abusive patterns, deprivation of work or education and lack of privacy. Lockdown also restricted movement of individuals. Religious events contributed to spread of disease according to news reports and that further adds complication to the dynamics that operate in India. In the present study as per the statistical analysis, a positive correlation exists between Family Distress Level Religious Involvement and Pearson correlation coefficient is 0.404 which is highly significant. The regression value is 2.164 and R square value is 0.145 which is for every 1 % change in family distress, there is 1.45 % change in religious involvement. Hence, there is a significant relationship between distress levels and religious involvement. With increase in family distress, Religious involvement also significantly increased during COVID 19 pandemic period
