Title

Critical insight into limitations associated with Cultivation of Medicinal Plants by small scale farmers

Abstract

Mounting interest for phytoconstituents and raw material obtained from medicinal plants due to lesser side effects and greater safety has resulted into augmented significance in its cultivation, which is a practical opportunity for improving the lifestyle of small scale farmers in small villages, as well as sustaining the availability of these resources for future generations. However, there are significant obstacles to the cultivation of these valuable plants for poor farmers having small farms. It must have been important to investigate whether growing natural herbs can alleviate economic inequality in small scale farmers while also protecting the endangered local biodiversity. This review article is basically based on thorough evaluation of the previous research to investigate the problems preventing small scale farmers from joining a potentially lucrative plant value chain. Results contribute to issues like insufficient breeding of important species of plants, ongoing over harvesting of herbal plant material growing wildly, lack of understanding of necessary agricultural methods, and low efficacy perceptions about derivatives from domesticated plants. These limitations coexist with the conservation-focused approach promoted by international conservation organizations. Aid for research funding along with awareness, specifically aimed incentives for small scale farmers, procurement and some off agreements, all of which are intended to promote an innovative economic development strategy that focuses on eradicating poverty, are suggested as ways to increase participation of skilled farmers in the farming of medicinal plants for their active constituents. The review contributes to the fundamental dialogue on agro biodiversity, ecological conservation, alleviating inequality among poor, and economic development.
