Abstract

The maternal health status of Indian women was seems to be lesser then to other developed countries. Promotion of maternal and child health has been one of the major important part of the family welfare programme of the government of India for better growth and development of the country. There is high need to improve MCH care in the country. Safe motherhood by providing good Antenatal care (ANC) plays very important role to lower and leaves maternal mortality ratio and infant mortality rate and to achieve millennium development goals. It is highly recommended that ANC be received as early as possible and that is continued through “eight ANC contact” first ANC contact should takes place in the first trimester, two contact in the second trimester, two contact in the third trimester. Antenatal care, is given various meaning by various scholars, among others the meaning says “ Antenatal care means care before birth till the 2nd week after the delivery and involves, education counselling, screening and treatment to monitor and to promote the health of mother and developing features. In short it is the care that a women receives during pregnancy that helps to ensure healthy outcomes for women and new born till birth of new born. It is most important point for pregnant women to receive a multiple range of health services such as nutritional support, prevention or treatment of anemia, eclampsia pre eclampsia, pph ( post partum harmones change) detection and treatment of malaria, tuberculosis and sexually transmitted infection.
