In India, the Nilgiri Mountains is surrounded by the Western Ghats in northwestern state of Tamilnadu, Karnataka state in the Southern part, and Kerala state in the eastern region of the hills. This Nilgiris hills is positioned at the trijunction of the three states and connects them in the place called Gudalur.This Nilgiris mountains is above 2000 meters (6,600 ft.) above MSL, the highest peak is the Doddabetta peak at 2,637 meters (8,652 ft).The Name 'Nilgiris' means Blue hills (Neelam - Blue and giri - Hill or Mountain) the first mention of this name has been found in the Silappadikaram. The Nilgiris have the highest number of tigers in Tamil Nadu and the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve has the highest number of tigers in all of the world. Nilgiris is also known as Udhagamandalam and Ooty is called the 'Queen of hill stations as it lies in the Nilgiris at an altitude of 7440 ft. above sea level.
