Government needs finance for the purpose of economic development. Government collects funds through various sources such as taxes, income from foreign exchange, market borrowings, sale of public assets, income from public undertakings, fees, fines etc. Government opts for various changes in the sources of revenue. Hence changes are made not only in various sectors of revenue but also in the system of taxation. Taxation is considered as most important source of revenue to the government. There are two types of taxes levied viz direct tax and indirect tax. GST is one of the Indirect tax revenue to the government. GST is commodity taxation for largest source of all Government’s revenue throughout the world. This tax contributes nearly 60-65% of the total revenue to the Government. GST is a comprehensive, multi-stage, destination based tax that is levied on every value addition. This tax is collected by intermediary (such as manufacture and retailer) from the consumers. In this paper, we will study the awareness of GST on business in the Palghar District of Maharashtra State.
