ENHANCING SELF-DIRECTEDNESS AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS THROUGH LeOLiPE STRATEGY FOR BLENDED LEARNING

Abstract

The main purpose of education is to influence the development of physical, social, intellectual and emotional readiness of an individual to produce readiness to lead a harmonious life and to contribute to the development of the nation. During past decades, educational system was designed to generate employees for industries and education was considered as a means for computing literacy index. But now, education is considered to be the means of generating human capital which is the base of economy. In this revolutionary era of technology our society has changed drastically and the entire world is connected with technology. These technological innovations changed the demands of society and the 21st century demands new skills and abilities from the citizens. All developed nations are imparting 21st century skills to their young generation and we too have to do the same in a better way to make our young ones to become competent for an open competition and also to succeed in their lives and to contribute to the national development and it is time to re design our education system to impart training for professionalism, self-direction, leadership, creativity, self-discipline, social skills and global citizenship. In this study, the investigator designed a strategy for blended learning to enhance self-directedness among students at secondary level. Mixed method was adopted for the study. Pre test-post test non-equivalent group design was used and for the experimental part, and the sample consisted of 94 secondary school students from Kerala. Self-directedness assessment test was conducted to collect quantitative data and focus group discussion was conducted to collect qualitative data. Quantitative data was analysed using t-test and ANCOVA. This study revealed that self-directedness among secondary school students can be enhanced through LeOLiPE strategy for blended learning.
