Gallic acid has been known to exert a wide variety of pharmacological activities owing to its antioxidant potential and ROS inhibiting potential. The objective of the current work is to synthesize some novel derivatives of gallic acid in order to improvise the ROS inhibiting potential thereby leading to antidepressant effect. This research work was to derivatize gallic acid to aminohydroxypropyloxy derivative and assess the antioxidant and antidepressant potential of the compounds. The synthesis of the target compounds was accomplished by reaction of epichlorhydrin with gallic acid to form a reactive epoxy intermediate followed by amination in order to obtain the desired product. The results obtained from the physicochemical studies, the structure elucidation and the pharmacological screening.
