Helminthiasis is one of the most common worm diseases which causes a variety of unfavorable health troubles in humans. Ayurveda is one of the most distinguished and historic structures of conventional medicines in India. Most ayurvedic drugs used for intestinal helminths had been evolved by means of conventional information and consequently lack a right validation through controlled studies. Natural products are also used widely in present days. Both ayurvedic formulation and glycyrrhiza glabra have well established anthelmintic activity. The main aim of the present study was to compare the in vitro anthelmintic activity of ayurvedic formulation and Glycyrrhiza glabra. The in vitro testing of ayurvedic formulation and glycyrrhiza glabra was done against an Indian earthworm(Pheretima megacolex) employing 10mg/ml,50mg/ml,100mg/ml concentrations of each drug. The anthelmintic activity was compared based on the paralysis and morality time of the worms after exposure to both the formulations.
