Title

Education of Girl Child and Marital Status in West Bengal: Policy Implications

Abstract

ABSTRACT Girl education is of prime focus to increase the overall women’s participation in the development process. It is affected by various internal reasons like family mentality, culture of parents, education of family members, economic condition of the family, dependency rate, etc., while development caused displacement is the important external factor affecting girls education. When parents have to take decision regarding education of boy child and girl child, always girls are become deprived in developing country like India. Sometimes, low rate of girls’ educational status is linked with early marriage. In spite of several policy framework done to increase girl child education and to eradicate the early marriage system; but still the country shows numerous evidences of these two events. Though, ‘Universalization of Education’, ‘Education for all’ are important motto of the central and state governments since independence, but gendered space on education scenario tells different story. On the basis of such a realization, implementations of the following proposals may create some difference like educational empowerment, employment possibilities, awareness and motivation building with administrative and community actions.
