VANET-AMS: Adaptive Message Scheduler for Vehicular Area Networks

Abstract
Wireless access in vehicular environment (WAVE) defines standards for wireless communication over VANET (i.e. IEEE-802.11p and Dedicated short range communication (DSRC)). Using these, applications can send safety and non-safety messages over network but network performance may be degraded due tothe dominance of high priority safety messages over non-safety message transmission.Finally, it may cause unnecessary retransmissions, collision, congestion and non-safety messages may stuck in starvation stage. All these factors may results in unfair channel utilization. In order to resolve this issue, in this paper, an adaptive message scheduler will be introduced, called VANET-AMS that offers dynamic scheduling for safety/non-safety messages and its will be analyzed under QoS constraints.
