Title

EFFECT OF FLYASH AND METAKAOLIN ON STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS OF CONCRETE

Abstract

A cement is a binder, a substance used for construction that sets, hardens to other materials to bind them together. Cement plays a vital role in the development of infrastructural buildings, industrial structures, bridges and highways etc, leading to utilization of large quantity of cement. On the other side, cost of cement is attributed to the cost of its ingredients which is scarce and expensive this leading to usage of economically alternative materials in its production. This requirement is drawn the attention of investigators to explore new replacements of ingredients of cement. Project deals with partially replacement of cement by Fly ash and metakaolin to determine its effect on strength characteristics of concrete. The Cement has been partially replaced by Flyash, metakaolin and in the ranges of 20%,30%,40%,50% and cement 80%,70%,60%,50% respectively each by weight of Cement. Water cement Ratio adopted for this work is by its consistency. The IS code 4031-1988 and its parts being used and tested before casting of each material. Cubes were casted with these cement mixes with aggregate, concrete and subjected to curing for 7 and 14 days 28 days and their strength is determined. The compressive strength gained, From the experimental investigations, it has been observed that the Optimum replacement of Fly ash , Metakolin respectively to Cement Concrete with 20%,30%, 40%,50%.
