Title

Study Of Electricity Distribution losses - A review

Abstract

The quality of power (electricity) is measured by voltage stability and voltage profile. The voltage profile is affected by the losses in distribution system. It presents an actual methodology for education of the loss of energy in electricity distribution systems. This considers the losses composed by two components, technical and non-technical (commercial) losses. Non-technical loss is the major part of distribution loss. This has various effects such as economical loss, environmental pollution. AMI (advance metering infrastructure system) has a significant influence on the loss reduction. Power loss reduction initiative in distribution systems leads to reduce the cost of energy purchase and increase the distribution infrastructures capacities. Distribution losses cost the utilities a very big amount of profit and reduce life of equipment. Other benefits from loss reduction include released system capacity, and possible deferral of capital expenditures for system strengths and modernisation. A smart meter is a device which monitors a household’s electricity consumption in real-time, and has the ability to display real-time pricing in each household. We conclude that these devices will provide short-term and long-term benefits to discoms and consumers. The smart meter will enable discoms to closely monitor electricity consumption in real-time, while also allowing households to adjust electricity consumption in response to real-time price adjustments.
