Title

An exploratory study of behaviour of rural women seeking treatment for infertility in Haryana

Abstract

In India, infertility is a growing problem. There haven't been many studies that examine the causes and effects of infertility in India. The paucity of knowledge regarding infertile couples' treatment-seeking behaviour is another issue. As infertility is not life-threatening and is not particularly annoying in a country with a large population density like India when other health-related problems are addressed, infertility is not high on politicians' agendas. So, the current study's objective is to record women's coping mechanisms, particularly their treatment-seeking behaviour, for their infertility problems in the rural Rewari and Hisar areas of Haryana state. In India, the prevalence of infertility was over 8% of women who were already married, with secondary infertility accounting for the majority (5.8%). Over 80% of infertile women sought therapy, however, a sizeable percentage (33%) received non-allopathic and conventional care because modern medicine is expensive and many people are unaware of the options. It is true that there is a need to raise the standard of care provided to infertile women as part of the policy response. Therapy for infertility ought to be included in comprehensive plans for reproductive health. Infertility management involves the timely diagnosis and adequate therapy. Women who have higher education and media exposure are more likely to use allopathic medicine. Similarly, depending on the type of treatment and socioeconomic conditions, time and money spent on care vary considerably and independently. The state government must pass laws requiring infertility therapy to be covered by insurance.
