Title

Investigating the thermoluminescence behavior of Borax Glasses activated with Nd (III) and Dy (III)

Abstract

The study of rare earth-doped glasses is important because the properties of RE ions in a glass environment can significantly affect their optical and thermal properties, which have practical applications in various industries and technologies. Examining the thermoluminescence spectra of Nd (III) in a Borax medium with different concentrations of Dy (III) will give an indication of the RE matrix and moderator-stimulated RE matrix interactions. The study aims to determine the trap depth using different formulae, such as Randall and Wilkins's, Grosswiener's, and Halperin and Braner's, and correcting them using Chen's approach. Furthermore, the activation energy is also calculated using Chen's formulae for general order kinetics. The results of the study show that the activation energies corresponding to different peaks in the thermoluminescence spectra range from 0.68 to 3.06 eV. These findings can contribute to the development of new materials and technologies that rely on the optical and thermal properties of RE ions in a glass environment.
