Title

"Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Computer Assisted Teaching Programme On Knowledge And Practice Regarding Prevention Of Hypothermia In Newborn Babies Among Postnatal Mothers At Government General Hospital, Holenarasipura".

Authors

Abstract

ABSTRACT Warmth is one of the basic needs of a newborn baby. It is critical to the baby’s survival and wellbeing. Unlike adults, newborn babies are often not able to keep themselves warm especially if the environmental temperature is low. This results in the low body temperature or hypothermia. Mothers should be aware of techniques to identify heat loss and measures to maintain hypothermia in newborn babies. so the aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of computer assisted teaching programme on knowledge and practice regarding prevention of hypothermia in newborn babies among postnatal mothers. This study was conducted to assess the pre-existing knowledge and practice. and to evaluate the effectiveness of computer assisted teaching on knowledge and practice regarding prevention of hypothermia in new born babies among postnatal mothers. An Evaluatory approach with pre-experimental one group pre-test – post-test design was used. Pre-test was done to evaluate the knowledge of the subjects by using SIS (structured interview schedule). The CAT programme was given by using power point presentation. Post test was conducted on 7th day with the same SIS. The mean pre test knowledge scores is 14.20 (SD 2.1) and the mean post- test knowledge score is 25.10 (SD 2.7), for a maximum score of 30 among postnatal mothers. The findings of the study showed that the Computer Assisted Teaching programme was effective in all the areas in improving the knowledge and practice of prevention of hypothermia in newborn babies among postnatal mothers.
