PURPOSE: The study aims to examine the risk management framework of commercial banks operating in India, which is followed according to the Basel Accords and RBI Guidelines. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: Interaction with the officials of various commercial banks operating in India and analysis of the information given by respondents in the Structured Questionnaires served as the Primary Source of data. SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS: In the absence of proper government and central bank intervention in the form of adjustments to the institutional and regulatory architecture, the high and rising level of NPAs will have detrimental effects on credit flow in the economy. The banking and financial services industry issues will result in slower overall economic growth, slower (or negative) increase in employment, and slower industrial and overall economic growth.
