Abstract
Purpose - Using a sample of consumers that is representative of Indian users, this research aims
to experimentally investigate the factors that affect a consumer's attitude toward and intention to
use digital wallets.
Objectives -
1. To see how users feel about a new technical service, such as the Digital Wallet
2. Researching the elements that affect customer acceptance of digital wallets
3. To research the risks and difficulties users of digital wallets encounter.
Design/methodology/approach – 500 smartphone users who also use a digital wallet for online
payments received a structured questionnaire. The respondents were divided into groups according
to their gender, age, and occupation. Estimated 400 of the 500 persons that were surveyed
answered. Consumers' preferences for online payment methods and the variables influencing those
preferences were the focus of the questions. Their options and difficulties using a digital wallet. In
order to obtain the statistical outcome from respondents, this study used a tool named SPSS.
Findings – The findings demonstrate that a number of elements, including perceived ease of use
(PEOU), trust (TR) , security (SEC) , enabling conditions, and lifestyle compatibility (LC),
significantly influence customer attitudes and intentions toward using mobile wallets. 15 of the 17
theories that were put out were accepted. Usefulness and trust were strongly influenced by ease of
use, but trust, attitude, and intention were significantly influenced by attitude. It was discovered
that security and trust are key factors in establishing trust.
Research limitations/implications – This study investigates the viewpoint of working
professionals and students from major Indian cities. A more comprehensive sample with balanced
representation from urban and rural India could expand the results' applicability to more diverse
target populations. This study examines data at a certain moment. In light of the rapidly shifting
rate of mobile wallet use, a longitudinal study might be carried out.
Additionally, it is possible to investigate the inclusion of additional antecedents that have not been
covered here, such as relative advantage, perceived benefits, and individual inventiveness.
Additionally, more study may be used to examine how demography, including its moderating
effect, affects the use of mobile wallets.
Practical implications – It is necessary to establish an integrated robust, dependable, and secure
infrastructure since security and trust have become crucial factors in determining whether Digital
wallets are accepted. To ensure safe and secure transactions, a group think tank composed of
important parties (financial institutions, mobile wallet providers, the government, security
specialists, etc.) should make recommendations. The results have management ramifications that
can direct businesses that provide mobile wallet services to increase usage and adoption of such
services.
Originality/value – Consumers now have more options for making digital payments thanks to
Digital wallets, which also give businesses and marketers more online marketing chances.
However, there isn't much information available regarding the use of mobile wallets in India. The
study is maybe the first of its kind in India to compare the uptake of mobile wallets using a bigger
sample size. The analysis suggests and supports extra constructs that were absent from the original
model.
