Title

A Review on Various Analytical Methods of Ibrutinib

Abstract

Cancer is a disease characterized by uncontrolled proliferation and spread of abnormal forms of the body's own cells. A normal cell transforms into a cancer cell due to one or more mutations in its DNA, which may be acquired or inherited. Anticancer drugs are traditionally classified either by their mechanism of action or by their origin. Based on mechanism of action, small molecule kinase inhibitors are continuously being explored as new cancer therapeutics. Kinases are phosphorylating enzymes that regulate numerous cellular functions such as proliferation, differentiation, migration, metabolism, and angiogenesis through activation of various signaling pathways. Ibrutinib belongs to a class of drugs called kinase inhibitors. It blocks the action of abnormal proteins that signal cancer cells to proliferate. This helps to stop the spread of cancer cells. Various analytical methods like UV spectroscopy, high performance thin liquid chromatography (HPTLC), high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC), ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC), thin layer chromatography (TLC), Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectroscopy (LC-MS/MS), gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS), capillary electrophoresis (CE) were reported for the determination of Ibrutinib as a single active pharmaceutical ingredient and in combination form. In this review, the authors attempted to compile few recent analytical methods that have been used for the analysis of Ibrutinib.
