Title

GLYCEROL ACETYLATION TO BIOFUEL ADDITIVES OVER TUNGSTOPHOSPHORIC ACID SUPPORTED ON TIN OXIDE SOLID ACID CATALYSTS

Abstract

Esterification of glycerol with acetic acid was carried over tungstophosphoric acid (TPA) supported on tin oxide catalysts. The catalysts with varying TPA content were prepared and characterized by FT-infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and temperature program desorption of NH3. The results suggest that the glycerol conversion and selectivity depend on the content of TPA, which reflect on the acidity of the catalysts. The selectivity in the glycerol esterification relates to the nature of the catalysts and reaction time. The effect of various parameters, such as reaction temperature, catalyst loading, the molar ratio of acetic acid to glycerol was studied to optimize the reaction conditions.
