Title

Arduino IoT Cloud Based Automatic Detection of Faults and Its Location In Power Transmission Line.

Abstract

The Electric Power System comprises multiple sections, including the transmission system that transports power from generating stations to consumers via transmission lines. However, faults can occur when the system insulation fails, disrupting its stability. A prototype model is designed to detect fault types and its locations, which involves understanding different types of faults and their principles. Fault detection relies on changes in transmission line resistance caused by the fault location, which alters the fault current. The type of fault can be determined by programming a peak-up current value in the microcontroller. We aim to discuss all the major factors of fault in transmission lines and an insight to rectification of faults using modern technology i.e. IoT with designing the prototype model for the detection of faults which detects its fault type and location. The prototype model consists of various components, including 3-phase AC supply, 1-phase Transformer, Current Sensors, 4 Channel Relay Modules, 16x2 LCD Display, 5-watt resistors, LED, Node MCU ESP8266, 5V Piezo Buzzer, 6A MCB, push button, and connecting wires. The system automatically detects analyses and classifies faults (LG, LL, LLG, three phases) and accordingly calculates the fault distance using the Resistance-based algorithm method, and transmits fault information to the LCD and Arduino IOT cloud. Overall, it aims to upgrade the system for the power system protection using new technology such as IoT and electronic sensor and here it is used for the real time monitoring of the Power Transmission Line.
