Title

Long Term Impact of Demonetization on Indian Economy

Abstract

Demonetization is a policy decision that involves withdrawing the legal tender status of certain currency notes from circulation. In 2016, India implemented a large-scale demonetization initiative aimed at reducing corruption, curbing black money, and promoting digital payments. The move had significant short-term effects on the economy, causing disruptions in cash-dependent sectors, slowing down economic growth, and creating cash shortages. However, the long-term impact of demonetization in tropical regions remains a matter of debate. While some argue that demonetization has led to positive outcomes such as an increase in tax revenue and greater financial inclusion, others suggest that it has resulted in negative consequences such as job losses, reduced consumption, and a slowdown in economic activity. This paper aims to provide an overview of the long-term impact of demonetization in tropical regions. It will analyse the effects of demonetization on key economic indicators such as GDP, inflation, employment, and investment. Additionally, it will explore the impact of demonetization on various sectors such as agriculture, real estate, and small and medium enterprises.
