Title

Aham Swastha: I am Healthy Review Article

Abstract

Background: Perfect health is defined as a state where a person is physically and mentally free from disease and suffers no pain and he cannot grow old early or die early. In order to secure this, Ayurveda helps in promoting and procuring perfect Health. So, Ayurveda teach us how to attain good physical, mental and spiritual health. The definition of health in Ayurveda is very wide, and even the World Health Organization has accepted this fact. Materials and Methods: All available materials were studied and analysed for comprehensive knowledge of the concept of Swasthya (Health). Discussion: The aim of Ayurveda is to preserve and promote the health of healthy individuals along with the prevention and management of ailments. One who stays excellently without any vikara(diseases) and where there is no stimulatory factor for disequilibrium of dhathu is called Swastha and the enjoying the state of health is called as well-being or Swasthya. The World Health Organization (WHO) expanded the definition of health and included the concepts of physical, psychological and social well-being and other prominent dimensions of health and wellness are addressed. Quality of life is a detailed concept which incorporates individuals' physical and psychological health, their degree of independence, their social liaisons and how they relate to their surroundings. Conclusion: The present work is a literature approach to assess the concept of health in Ayurveda which is similar to the concept of health in modern text i.e., the definition of health given by WHO and quality of life.
