Title

Sustainable Water Management: Tackling the Issue of Non-Revenue Water in the Water Supply System for LMC(Lucknow Municipal Corporation)

Abstract

Sustainable water management is an essential aspect of any city’s development, and non-revenue water (NRW) is a critical issue that can significantly impact the effectiveness and efficiency of the water supply system. Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) is one such city in India that is facing the challenge of NRW in its water supply system. This paper aims to analyze the current situation of NRW in LMC and proposes measures to tackle the issue. The study found that the NRW in LMC is currently at 52%, which is much higher than the national average of 30%. The major reasons for this high NRW are water theft, leakages, and inaccurate metering. The paper proposes measures such as meter replacement, pressure management, leak detection, and public awareness campaigns to reduce NRW in LMC. The study shows that implementing these measures can reduce NRW to 25%, which is significantly lower than the current level. The paper concludes that sustainable water management is crucial for the development of any city, and tackling the issue of NRW is a critical aspect of it. The proposed measures can significantly reduce the NRW in LMC and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the water supply system.
