Title

Psychological Traces of Cognitive Dissonance in the novel, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Abstract

"Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte is a novel that explores the concept of cognitive dissonance through the experiences of the protagonist, Jane Eyre. This paper discusses how Jane's beliefs and values are challenged throughout the novel, leading to internal conflicts and cognitive dissonance. However, her decisions ultimately reinforce her sense of self-worth and her belief in justice, equality, and gender equality. The paper explores how cognitive dissonance shapes the themes of self-worth and feminism in the novel, highlighting the importance of maintaining one's sense of self-worth, challenging societal expectations, and pursuing one's own desires. Through Jane's experiences, the novel demonstrates the complexities of human nature and the role of cognitive dissonance in shaping beliefs and values.
