Title

DEVELOPMENT OF HERBAL HAND GLOVES FOR CALLOSITY USING NATURAL FIBRES

Abstract

The greatest solution for preventing callosity issues in workers and cyclists is to wear hand gloves. When the keratinization process, which keeps the stratum corneum of the skin as a horny protective coating, becomes too active because of shearing or compressive stresses, a callosity type with calluses and corns develops. As a defence mechanism in response to pressure and friction, corns and calluses form. Although they are not harmful, if the skin develops cracks or gets irritated, it could be painful. This is a typical protective reaction seen in barefoot walkers' feet and the hands of manual laborers, and a callosity only becomes pathological when it is large enough to produce symptoms. Protective hand gloves are highly absorbent and easily dry. In the case of Industrial labour, wearing gloves is crucial for hand protection. Therefore, a proper design of protective gloves is fairly necessary for with the property of elasticity, breathability, absorbency, UV protective, good grip, durability, flexibility, waterproof gloves to reduce heat and to absorb sweat. The study deals with development of anti-microbial hand gloves for Industrial labour made with natural fibre like banana fibre and cotton blended, finished with medicinal herbs. Which in turn helps to protect the skin and to maintain the microclimate. Herb Clitoria ternatea used in this study has antiinflammation property and have tendency to cure skin diseases finished using padding mangle method also tested for its cytotoxity. The AATCC standards tests pertained good results for the selected material to serve as protective hand gloves. The product is eco-friendly and breathable.
