The discovery and development of new chemical entities is not only an expensive but also time consuming affair. Hence the pharmaceutical industries are focusing on the design and development of innovative drug delivery systems for existing drugs. One such delivery system is the fast disintegrating oral film, which has gained popularity among pediatric and geriatric patients. In view of the benefits of the fast disintegrating films over the fast disintegrating tablets, it has the capacity for industrial exploitation. This fast disintegrating films comes with many possible advantages as of a fast disintegrating tablets but lack of friability and threat of choking is more likely to happen to pediatric and geriatric patients. The oral film dosage form not just has positive benefits of other rapid disintegrating systems but additionally satisfies the unmet wishes of the market. The present review highlights the capability interest, layout and development of sturdy, strong, and modern orally rapid- disintegrating films.
