Title

FAMILY TYPE BIOGAS PLANTS: A CASE SCENARIO FROM DIFFERENT INDIAN STATES

Abstract

Energy Generation and Consumption in a nation happens mainly through two sources of energy that are renewable and non-renewable. With the present scenario, it is important to move towards energy generation from renewable sources so as to address serious environmental concerns such as global warming, greenhouse gas emissions etc in household level, for cooking and heating the different sources utilised are firewood, kerosene, LPG, electricity, biogas etc. Biogas is a viable option for cooking because it is renewable source of energy, provides partial/ full energy security for households, the raw materials needed are available with the household or nearby at low/ minimal cost. Positive Index is used as it is renewable energy and to understand the installation and adoption of family biogas plants in different states with the help of time-series data. Decennial numbers from last four census years are used to get an insight how different states have performed those years with regard to family biogas plant installation. Mean analysis have been adopted to get a clear picture of the cumulative number of family biogas plants in different states till January 2021. Findings from this paper are that even though the biogas plants have several benefits, there is still a long way to reach its potential in energy generation in family type biogas plants. Government policies are in place to facilitate the adoption of biogas plants, but still a more integrated approach is necessary to increase the outreach and scaling of biogas plants in different states.
