Title

CHALLENGES FACED BY AIR CARGO SERVICES IN INDIA

Authors

Abstract

ABSTRACT The aviation sector in India is rapidly evolving and is among the fastest growing in the world. About 75% of the domestic aviation sector is controlled by private airlines, which provide both full-service and discount options. With domestic cargo expected to grow at a pace of 10 per cent per year till 2011-12, Indian airports saw a healthy growth in air freight in 2009-10. The total number of air shipments is expected to exceed 2.6 million by the end of 2012, as reported by the Air Transport Association of India (ATAI). Both the Bangalore and Hyderabad PPP airports can handle 3.5 and 1 million tonnes of cargo, respectively. India accounts for just 3% of the $270 billion global air shipping business, which is made up of an estimated 27 million tonnes. The study's overarching goal is to gain insight into the challenges faced by the air shipping industry. The purpose of the check is to record any problems that arise during the air transport of a cargo from its origin to its destination. Cargo import and export involves many tiers of technical expertise. Some of the predominant processes are Export operations, Import Operations, AWB (Airway Bill) management, Freight Forwarding, Customs clearance, Transportation. This study provides insight into the challenges faced by the air shipping industry. Problems with customs clearance procedures, airport terminal congestion, reducing dwell times, insufficiently trained staff, inefficient utilisation of belly cargoes capacity, forecasting airline cargo capability and area allocation, difficult circumstances involving hazardous cargo and dangerous shipment, and so on. An overview of the relevant literature review is presented for many topics. The most common method of data collection in the research is the employment of questionnaires and supplementary comments from various employees. The data is analysed using a statistical programme, and a conclusion is drawn straight from the numerical results.
