The Indian banking system has a vast network of bank branches and contributes significantly to both the overall financial growth of the nation as well as the provision of various financial services to the general people. Two big banks—one from the public sector banks and the other from the private sector banks—have been chosen for the development of the current paper by the article's authors. State Bank of India (SBI) was chosen from among the public sector banks, while Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) was chosen from among the private sector banks. In order to analyze the financial performance of these two monopolistic banks, financial ratios such as the credit-deposit ratio, the interest expense to total expense ratio, the interest income to total income ratio, the other income to total income ratio, the net profit margin ratio, and the return on advances ratio have been chosen.
