Title

A STUDY TO IDENTIFY THE DEGREE OF AUTISM AMONG CHILDREN WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS IN SELECTED SETTINGS

Abstract

Background: Autism is undiagnosed until very late in to the developmental years of the child. The reasons behind this are limited awareness of parents as well as denial in accepting their child’s problems. An accurate diagnosis is based on care givers interviewing and observation. In order to facilitate clinical care, it is helpful to estimate the degree of ASD among individual cases. ISAA consists of 40 items rated on a 5-point scale Ranging from 1 (never) to 5 (always).Materials and Methods: The study employed a Quasi experimental - Non Equivalent pretest-post test control group design was conducted between September2022 to February 2023 Sample of 200(100 each in experimental and control group) were included in the study. Results: The degree of autism score 74% and 72% of the experimental and control group children had moderate level of autism and 26% and 28% of the experimental group and control group children had mild autism respectively. Statistically the chi square association revealed that there was no significant difference between the samples in both groups, thereby proving the homogeneity between groups Conclusion: In conclusion, the ISAA is a reliable, useful and feasible scale for assessing the degree of autism and to rate associated disabilities in Indian children.
