The article focuses implications of spelling errors on the performance of English language users. Spelling errors are the most common type of mistakes*in the written words of English language users. Spelling in English language poses particular problems to the users because of the differences in the writing systems of Arabic, French, Latin and other languages that form the orthography of the English language. In addition, major problems encountered by the users of the English language are differences in sounds and writing which are not regular in nature. Specifically, the paper highlights on these important areas of the language; English as a Second Language in Nigeria approaches to error analysis, sources of spelling errors, Classifications of errors, errors and written English of Nigerian learners/users, Intralingual transfer and developmental errors among others. Recommendations and conclusion of this paper were made based on issues scholarly highlighted.
